Apache Junction E-News

Basketball is workin' it at the Apache Junction Branch.

The teams have been practicing hard with their coaches to prepare for their first games that were played last saturday. We don't know what the scores were or which Club teams that they played but win or lose, we know they had a good time and will continue to give it their best. We will be placing their scheduled games here on the E-news and the Club Calendar. If you get the chance, go watch the game and support these dedicated athletes.

Martin Luther King Day might have been a holiday but it was a workday for the boys and girls at the Club.

A group of volunteers from the Club and Teen Center pitched in to pick up the trash along Idaho Road and around the Club and Four Peaks Grade School. They did such a great job that the City of Apache Junction recognized their efforts during a public meeting at City Hall.

Photos of that event will hopefully be available soon.

Great Community Service!

Spelling Bee Contest in Tempe.
Club members went to Tempe Boys & Girls Club Branch and participated in a Spelling Bee Competition. All of the participants had practiced and studied hard for the event and achieved second place in the competition. Chris Borey said that the boys and girls from the Club did an excellent job and like any other competition, there is always next time. Congratulations to the team and individuals who studied so hard and tried their best to win. Just remember, winning is great, but many times the experience is even better.

Torch Club to elect new officers.

Well, it is once again time for elections and members of the Torch Club are putting together campaign signs and deciding a platform that would be beneficial to the Club and its members. Soon, requests and solicitations for votes will take place and possibly some great campaign speeches and debates. The City Recorder's office has volunteered to help with voter registration and handling the election. This is done to give club members a better view of a democratic system. There will be a great deal of excitement generated by this election. More to come as nominations are decided and Club members become involved with the candidates.

Training for the Fun Run.

The International Apache Junction Marathon is this Valentine's Day and several members from the Apache Junction Club will be running in the 2-mile event. Cody will be working them hard to prepare. If you have a chance, go out and cheer them on.

Club Members are learning how to gather news and write an article covering the Who, What, Why, When and Where of the story. More information to follow. Hopefully you will see some of their work here.
